20inchers friends
Not a page usually given much scope on many sites, but for us it means something different. The people who contribute to these pages are part of the scene. They each have a different perspective on what is, has been and what might be. You may or not agree with what some of them have to say but that's as much your perogative as it is theirs (Note: We will not print or condone anything that abuses others, causes unnecessary offence or could be considered racist.). We are not trying to be anything, we have no intentions on being 'the best' we're just doing our bit, contributing to something bigger than any one person.
20inchers
is primarily a collective of bmx related thoughts and images. We are not pretentious,
above ourselves or beyond your reach. As editor i have personally been involved
in bmx for seventeen years, have edited zines, written for magazines, studied
photography, computing and above all lived most of my life around a 20inch bmx.
I, as have many, seen the good and the bad in the scene; I have seen the 'big
up' and the 'dissed down' the roots and the mainstream. I do not know it all,
nor do i profess to. I have a real interest in what bmx has created within people
(incl. myself)......that's it.
- r.
People are 90% of what bmx is and that is what you are reading about for the duration of these pages.

Oliver
John Ludolph - Now based in Kissing, Germany, Oliver was one of the great
people we met in Madrid. He was spending a year there and only recently returned.
Oliver is laid back, has extended interests in drinking Spanish specialties and
street riding. His views on bmx were given without all the usual (expected) crap
and i appreciated that refreshingly honest element. A sound grasp on languages
and he made me laugh with very original statements on the very mundane.

Carinne
Leandri - Carinne is a photographer based in London, England but originally
from France. We met at the Nokia FISE comp in Palavas and i have been really impressed
with what her camera turns out. I'm proud to be able to bring you her images.
A collection of her photo-biography appeared in Soul Magazine #23 January/February
2003 and the images she has created brought areas of this site to life.

Ross
Teperek - I laugh just thinking about Ross, i have known him many years now
and despite being a damn good flatlander he chooses to nail himself on street
and has a natural talent with girls. I have absolutely no idea exactly when or
where i first met him, but it was in Leeds for sure. This is someone with crazy
good taste in music and design who can make me laugh and have no idea why. He
is straight up and despite being tied the long hours his chosen route has taken
him he remains as active as ever with aspects of riding even if it might not be
entirely on his bike.

Cristina
Hernanz - As i began to recieve photos of a rider in Spain who through 20inchers
joined the Revoltbmx family i was surprised at just how good some of them were.
They weren't the usual riding 'trick' shots, they had the feeling behind them.
Cristina was the girl behind the camera and has since then been over to Germany
to visit and has been overflowing our inbox with images.

Utida
Wellington - The man known only as 'Tico' ;) This guy is a rider (and
all round good bloke) based in Brazil. I met him in Germany this year when
he approached us to ask about getting to the UK. I have known Tico the shortest
amount of time but when he said he would write for 20inchers i was really happy
because he is a very sound guy with a passion for bmx.

John
'bmx trivia' Hall - I almost don't want to put anything about john because
everyone already knows him. On the scene even before there was a scene, the guy
knows it all. In as few words as possible he's a rider based in Stockport, England
- now with his own frame.....the Hallmark, designed by john manufactured in Sheffield
England.

Rae
Hagley - I never met Rae, but i would only have to hear her talk to recognise
her. She has an outlook on the way things are that instantly drew my respect.
She is the founder of grindbmx clothing company, rider and resident of Austin.
She must be one of the busiest people there, when she is now dancing she works
for the state and has no problem using that fact to ride restricted spots with
"AUSTIN ENERGY". tight rae, real tight.

Paul
Hallahan, Dillon Osborne and Dino Jeffers - Of these infamous names i know
only Dino. Dino is more than i could ever describe here. He's a good laugh, a
positive and energetic individual who has more contest stamina than i have ever
had. Riding flat longer than he's been able to walk he's seen all the circuit
has to offer and has put more than that back in, all that and still keeping his
Irish home fires burning. Dillon and Paul, 'Bangor (N.Ireland) representatives'
that i have yet to be aquainted with but they sure can write...

Rob
Harrison - A rider from Yorkshire, England. "I been around, done a few
things and love riding my bike". Right he's somewhere between Köln Germany
and Bradford England, but has also lived in Leeds, York, Reading, London, and
Madrid. "I wouldn't say i look after things here -it would be the wrong way
to describe the unorganised mess, but i'm kind of behind a lot of the mess".
20inchers started in 1996 and Rob has been with us since day one. "The concept
that you now see through the 20inchers site saw the light of day a long time before
and sometime during during my seventeen years of 20inch-ism, i began contributing.
I'm not sure that i want to write more about myself here....somehow it doesn't
seem appropriate. Enjoy life...that's what it's there for....just respect others
and their opinions as you go. peace."

Carlos
Maqueda Munoz - A rider from Madrid, Spain. Carlos was one person i met
in Madrid in 2002 after moving there myself from the UK. He (as well as all
the other riders i met there) was open minded, free with his riding and his
thoughts and i respected what he had to say. For me Carlos demonstrated perfectly
the passion within bmx without having it destroying everything else in his
life. He's also a talented artist and photographer - as his his girlfriend
Christina whose photos are also displayed on the site. Carlos has since been
picked upto ride for both wethepeople and Revoltbmx.

Melanie
Chaluleau - Mel is someone who definately does her own thing.
The first time i met her she was taking photos at the urban games with Carinne.
But the second time she was wandering the streets of Southsea with all her
bags, no where to stay and no plan except King of Concrete. Independant would
be an understatement. Currently stuck in Paris she also contributes to aggrobmx
(french site) and several music magazines.

Javier
Diaz 'Tortas' - A rider from Madrid, Spain. Tortas is full gas, full time
and enjoys more than just an eyefull of the ladies that Spain has to offer.
He can ride anything - even the walled in over-vert concrete vert ramp in
his home village - a ramp that had me only lost for words. A contributor to
the Madrid scene through more than just presence he is one of the riders pushing
things here. For me he can sometimes be as loud as lost ship at night and
at other times you might not even know he his there till he's pulling something
amazing over the coping.

Chris 'Carve' Hardy - Shit what can i add about Chris. Someone who has been there since the beginning, it really was something like '82/82 when he began and since then he has been the instigator of some of the first rider owned/and orientated companies Carve, then later Blunt. An often nomadic lifestyle but treating the folks of Leeds, UK and Austin, US to an extended stay and in that time affecting the lives of all of the riders there, ALL. a creative and innovative street/mini rider with a flatland back ground which shows in his tech and balance flair. Spent the last year or so in Austin and hasn't allowed that to quell his need for travel. This guy has organised more roadtrips than the number of months you've been riding, and has probably been riding longer than the number of months you've been alive. He has since moved back to the UK but last i heard of him was Barcelona.
I also want to contribute...
If
you would like to add you thoughts or whatever (if you're gonna send pictures
of your naked girlfriend at least try to get her permission), then just get in
touch and send a sample of your work or some ideas of what you'd like to cover
for consideration.
Ed. Note: 20inchers reserves the right to make minor
alterations and corrections to submissions; you can submit articles in French,
Spanish, German or English. We will consider others on a one-2-one basis.
